Basque Country Government
Within its strategy for promoting tourism, the Basque Country Government was actively looking to the use of new technologies for its marketing campaigns. On one hand, they were interested in adapting their web www.euskaditurismo.net in order to improve connectivity through smartphones and tablets. They also wanted to promote their new smartphone app 'Euskadi Turismo Basque Country', which offers tourists geo-localized information of their surroundings using Augmented Reality. They also were interested in finding an innovative way of promoting a new Tshirt collection with the Basque logo.
Virtualware developed a smartphone and tablet application which allows tourists to become part of the experience of making new t-shirt models.
The Augmented Reality application recognises the three first new designs representing the milestones of each provincial capital of the Basque country: Pelota Vasca (Basque handball), surfing and city breaks, which aim to show the different tourist attractions of each city in a novel way. Once the app is opened, the user only has to aim the camera at the tshirt to view images and videos of Basque gastronomy, the Guggenheim Museum, the Vizcaya Bridge, etc.
The Deputy Minister of Commerce and Tourism of the Basque Government, Itziar Epalza, presented the new mobile marketing apps including that of Virtualware which the Basque Government is using in order to promote the “Euskadi-Basque Country” brand.
