Tourism Promotion Board of Mexico (CPTM)
Mexico used its participation in the 34th edition of The International Tourism Fair (FITUR), to launch a series of promotional campaigns around its varied offer for tourists. An impressive stand measuring more than 1400 square metres included 104 booths promoting tourist destinations, tour operators, hotels and airlines and additional exhibitions showing off the cultural wealth of different regions of the country. This strong presence meant along with their new promotional campaigns meant that there was a real need to capture the attention of passers-by and engage visitors in an interactive and innovative way.
Virtualware Group, through its office in Mexico, worked with the Department of Tourism Promotion of Mexico (CPTM) to supply the display technology for the Mexico pavilion in Fitur. The solutions included:
· An interactive application installed on 4 large format touch screens which provided information about the stand, zones, activities, co-exhibitors, and more through an interactive 3D model.
· A large 9 screen videowall with two interactive solutions based on Microsoft Kinect technology. One activity was a virtual flight which allowed visitors to “fly” over and discover five different territories and towns in Mexico. Another was an interactive game where visitors had to catch bubbles appearing on the screen using their body movement, in order to pass levels to discover images and Points of Interest of Mexico.
· An Augmented Reality photobooth was also installed which allowed visitors to virtually place themselves in different scenarios, villages and cities of the country, snap a picture and then share it through various social networks.
The Mexico stand was inaugurated by Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Minister of the Tourism of Mexico, along with Rodolfo López Negrete, general manager of the Council of Tourism Promotion of Mexico (CTPM), and Héctor Gómez Barraza, General Manager of National Found of Tourism Development (Fonatur). Various media organizations from Mexico were on hand to capture the moment. The stand itself received thousands of visitors during the fair who got a glimpse of what Mexico has to offer through the interactive applications.
Due to the success of the Virtualware solutions, and with the aim of strengthening Mexico’s image, the interactive applications will be used in various international tourism fairs during 2014.
